Rhonda Abrams is a business author and columnist for USA TODAY. In a recent column, she pointed out that A) business resolutions are far easier to implement and keep than personal New Year’s resolutions, and B) suggested some good ones for business owners to make in 2018.
Top of her list? Find a good accountant.
We say a hearty Amen to that.
Abrams went on to say that most of the new tax laws took effect as of January 1, and as a business owner, you need to find out what they are, and how they will impact your business. She characterized the rules regarding the new deduction for a portion of “pass-through” income as having “more contortions than a Cirque de Soleil performer, so you need professional help.” Well, yes.
The new rules can be a bit complex. But that’s why we’re here. So you can continue to focus on running your business, and let us help you make sure that you have no avoidable surprises at tax time next year.
It’s important to have a team of professionals helping guide your business toward good fiscal health, just as you have a team of professionals guiding you toward personal good health. For instance, you probably have a doctor, a dentist, perhaps a few specialists, a nutritionist, your family and maybe some gym buddies to work out with, all encouraging you to personally maintain a healthy lifestyle. Similarly, for your business, you should have a CPA, a banker, perhaps a financial planner, and maybe a few others, depending on your needs.
So it turns out, it’s not just raising children that takes a village. Running a successful life or business requires a team, with everyone focused on your goals.
